Furthermore, while Broca’s division of the brain assigning specialization to specific areas has long been accepted clinically, there is considerable research suggesting these brain areas serve a general rather than specific function.  Other research, such as that of  Evelina Fedorenko’s lab at MIT, suggests two sets of subregions lying side by side in these areas.  One subregion is specialized, surrounded by another that is generalized across cognitive domains.
